SCOPE
Demolition and Slab Removal Works from L2 Recreation Area
We were grateful to be involved in the significant renovation works at NSW Parliament House, located at 6 Macquarie Street, Sydney. As a heritage-listed complex, NSW Parliament House is known for its stunning neoclassical architecture and rich historical context. As we execute these intricate works, we are committed to preserving the integrity of this architectural gem. The environment is highly-sensitive, given the site’s historical significance and the ongoing activities of the Parliament, necessitating stringent safety and operational protocols.
This project entails a careful and comprehensive scope of works that includes the removal and storage of timber wall panels throughout Levels 2 and 3, as well as the removal of bathroom wall tiles along with the removal of high ceilings, plasterboard ceilings, furniture, fittings, and equipment, floor finishes, and the demolition of partitions and masonry walls. The scope includes kitchen, spiral staircase and slab demolition, as well as the extension and creation of new door openings throughout. Importantly, this project involves friable asbestos removal, which is being meticulously managed to ensure the safety of all personnel and the preservation of the building’s heritage features this week.
Given the sensitive nature of this project, we are implementing strict PPE requirements and safety measures to protect both workers and the historic structure. Our asbestos removal team is specially trained and equipped to handle hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with all regulations and best practices. Additionally, the load-out process presents unique challenges, emphasising the need for meticulous planning and execution due to the live nature of the building. To minimise disruption, the works will primarily be conducted at night and around parliamentary sittings, allowing us to carefully navigate the complexities of this important site while honouring its legacy as a vital part of Sydney’s cultural heritage.
