SCOPE
Partial Stripout
We were excited to undertake the partial strip-out of the GS Diamonds store in the historic Queen Victoria Building (QVB), a landmark celebrated for its striking architectural beauty and cultural significance. This project, aimed to facilitate the expansion of GS Diamonds into a single, more spacious retail environment by removing the dividing wall between two tenancies. Our scope of works included stripping out carpet throughout the space and dismantling all joinery fixtures and ceiling lights while ensuring the original ceiling remained intact.
The QVB, with its magnificent Romanesque Revival design and rich history, presented a unique backdrop for this project. As we carefully executed these works, we were committed to preserving the building's exquisite architectural features, including its iconic arches and ornate detailing. Special care was taken during the load-out process, given the QVB’s status as a heritage-listed, late-nineteenth-century structure located at 429–481 George Street in Sydney's central business district. The work was conducted at night to minimise disruption, with limited working hours to ensure the preservation of this iconic site. This project not only enhanced GS Diamonds’ retail presence but also honoured the QVB’s legacy as a cherished part of Sydney’s heritage, balancing contemporary needs with a respect for the past while focusing on achieving a quick turnaround to meet the project’s timeline.
